Former Reynosa, Tamaulipas councilwoman sentenced in US for drug trafficking

In June 2023, Denisse Ahumada was arrested while driving a vehicle from Reynosa, Mexico, to the United States and at the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint, an X-ray inspection of the vehicle revealed the presence of the drug.

The Border Patrol carried out a second inspection of the vehicle and found 37 bricks of cocaine, so elements of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) were required to interrogate the woman.

Denisse Ahumada intended to get to San Antonio where she would be given instructions on what to do with the vehicle, as she told authorities at the time, and even said that she was threatened.
