David Buchanan (36), a foreign pitcher who played for the professional baseball Samsung Lions, is attempting to re-enter the big league with the Texas Rangers.

MLB Trade Rumors reported on the 1st (Korean time) that Buchanan signed a minor league contract with Texas. This contract includes an option to be invited to Major League Baseball (MLB) spring camp.

Buchanan, who debuted with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2014, played for the Yakult Swallows of the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) before wearing the Samsung uniform in 2020.

He served as Samsung’s first starter for four seasons until the 2023 season, appearing in a total of 113 games, recording 54 wins, 28 losses, and an average ERA of 3.02.

Samsung sought to renew Buchanan’s contract after the 2023 season, but Buchanan signed a minor contract with his hometown Philadelphia in February of last year.

After being traded to the Cincinnati Reds in August of last year, Buchanan was called up to MLB on September 1 and appeared on the mound against the Milwaukee Brewers, taking the mound in the big league for the first time in about 9 years since 2015.

However, Cincinnati released Buchanan after his return to the big leagues. Buchanan, who became invincible again, took on the challenge again in Texas.
