Former senior IDF officer deems Minister Galant’s dismissal as “justified”

In an interview with Moshe Nestelbaum on Shabbat Tarbut, retired General Professor Isaac ben Israel expressed his belief that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to dismiss Defense Minister Yoav Galant was legitimate. Ben Yisrael explained that it is reasonable for a prime minister to remove a minister from their government when they lose confidence in them. He noted that Netanyahu had done the same in the past when he removed Itzik Mordechai from his position after Mordechai announced that he was running against Netanyahu for the Likud leadership. Ben Israel also rejected the claim that there is reluctance in the military and clarified that volunteer military personnel are not refusers, but rather individuals who do not wish to continue volunteering after their retirement.

General (res.) Professor Isaac ben Israel Believes that the Prime Minister’s decision Benjamin Netanyahuto fire the Minister of Defense Yoav Galant From his position, it is legitimate. In an interview with Moshe Nestelbaum on Shabbat Tarbut in Petah Tikva, Major General Ben Yisrael said that “it is legitimate that when a prime minister loses confidence in a minister, he does not want the minister to be a member of his government.”

Ben Yisrael mentioned that this is how Netanyahu behaved in the past when he fired the minister Itzik Mordechai from his position, after Mordechai announced that he would run against him for the Likud leadership. Ben Israel added that “was anyone moved by this? This is not the way of the world that the prime minister wants the ministers to be loyal to.” Like the one he warned about.

General Ben Israel denied the claim that there is reluctance, and said that those who present themselves as refusers are volunteer military personnel and not refusers, that no one obliges them to volunteer and serve after their retirement, therefore in his opinion it is not about refusal, but rather unwillingness to continue volunteering to serve in the IDF.
