Former Smash Mouth Lead Vocalist Steve Harwell in Hospice Care: Comment on This Heartbreaking Story

by time news

Former Smash Mouth lead vocalist, Steve Harwell, is in hospice care with limited time left, according to a representative for the group. The 56-year-old musician is in the final stage of liver failure and is currently being cared for by his fiancée.

Robert Hayes, the band’s manager, confirmed the news and asked for privacy during this difficult time. He stated, “Although Steve is here with us still, sadly it will only be for a short time.”

Harwell announced his retirement in October 2021 to focus on his physical and mental health after a troubling performance in Upstate New York. Videos from the show depicted him in a disoriented state. Over the years, Harwell has struggled with addiction, resulting in health complications such as cardiomyopathy, which affects his speech and memory.

Smash Mouth rose to fame in the 1990s with hits like “Walkin’ on the Sun” and “All Star.” The latter track appeared on their second studio album, “Astro Lounge,” and charted on the Billboard Hot 100 list. The band also contributed to the soundtrack of the animated film “Shrek” in 2001, with their songs “All Star” and their cover of the Monkees’ hit “I’m a Believer.”

Harwell’s iconic voice made him one of the most recognizable voices of his generation, according to Hayes. With Harwell as the frontman, Smash Mouth sold over 10 million albums worldwide.

Although the band has not yet publicly commented on Harwell’s condition, they continue to tour with new lead vocalist Zach Goode.

This news comes as a shock to fans, who hope for peace and comfort for Steve Harwell and his loved ones during this challenging time.
