“A historic event has taken place – the left-wing party in Lithuania “KARTU. Alliance of the Left”. And the elected leader – Jolanta Bielskienė became the chairman of the party,” Andrius Bielskis, a member of the party’s Ethics Commission, told Elta on Wednesday.
According to A. Bielskis, during the founding festival, the party’s secretariat and the Ethics Commission were also elected. A political power program was also introduced.
According to A. Bielskis, “TOGETHER. “Left Alliance” was established by 2093 persons. The law provides that at least 2 thousand people can establish a party in Lithuania. citizens.
“We are glad that a lot of young people joined, a lot of intellectual people, students from the best Lithuanian universities,” commented one of the founders of the party.
After the founding festival, the leaders of the left will approach the Ministry of Justice and submit all the necessary documents for the party to be officially registered.
“We will submit all documents to the Ministry of Justice as soon as possible. And then we will hope that a decision confirming the official establishment of the party will be made sooner rather than later,” explained A. Bielskis.
As “Kartu. The Alliance of the Left”, a new political force, is an alternative to the currently dominant politics defending right-wing values and the doctrine of neoliberal capitalism.
“Only a strong left-wing political party can respond to growing poverty and inequality, deteriorating conditions of health, education, culture, and the danger of the climate crisis. We have to prepare Lithuania for the future,” the party’s website reads.
“We are creating a party for the future – to have a strong political left.” We are not a populist party that stands for elections, then disbands and runs to other parties. We are an ideological party, an ideological group of people, and our goal is the distant future,” A. Bielskis told Elta on Wednesday.
In its program, the party distinguishes 12 steps “for a just, solidary and caring society”. The left emphasizes the importance of meaningful work not exploitation, advocates an economy for both nature and man, considers nature the basis of life and claims that restoring nature means restoring coexistence. Also among the operational tasks are no fear of poverty and illness, emphasis is placed on the local and sustainable food system, art and culture accessible to all, studies and science without any restrictions, a home for everyone, the right to a body and a dignified life, a safe Lithuanian society.
“More economic democracy, more social justice, more emphasis on culture, education, stronger financing of the public sector, shorter working week”, added A. Bielskis.
