In operation for twenty years, the special education institution has around 150 students, including deaf and mute, enrolled in this academic year 2023/2024.

The visit falls within the scope of the celebrations of the International Day of the Deaf, which is celebrated today on September 30th, celebrated by members of the deaf community from all over the world in an inclusive and participatory way.

On the occasion, Pinto Matamba visited the infrastructures, spoke with the complex’s management, attended sign language classes and invited deaf students to a retreat at the Slavery Museum, taking place under the motto: “Participatory Inclusion”.

The country has invested considerably in the form of specialists in Sign Language (LG), providing these professionals with tools to combat social inclusion and interaction between deaf and mute people.

Since 2020, the presence of sign language interpreters at the usual press conferences on the epidemiological situation of COVID-19 has given these experts visibility in the executive’s strategy on the inclusion of deaf people in the information society.
