Former‍ T-ara member Lee Areum has ⁣been indicted on charges of ‍embezzling tens of millions of won from her⁤ fans. Gyeonggi Gwangmyeong Police Station announced on the ​12th⁤ that ⁣it had sent Mr. Lee to ⁤the prosecution without detention on charges of fraud.

Mr. Lee has ‍been suspected of embezzling money from fans and acquaintances since late last‍ year.​ The investigation ‍into him began after a complaint was filed with the police ⁣requesting ⁤an investigation ⁣into fraud.

After the first ⁢of the three victims filed a complaint in March, two more filed one after another ⁤in ⁣May. The total‌ amount⁣ of damage claimed by the three plaintiffs is⁣ known to be 37⁣ million won.‍ They are reported to⁤ have claimed that “Mr. Lee ​borrowed ⁣money from her boyfriend for personal reasons and ‌then did not pay it back.”

When ⁢the incident⁣ became known, Mr. Lee denied ‍the charges, ​but it was found that he ⁢admitted to⁤ the charges during ⁣police investigation, saying it was‌ a “lonely crime.”

Police sent Mr. Lee to the Ansan branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office at ⁣the end of last​ month. Mr. ⁣Lee was previously ⁣sent to the prosecution in May on charges of abusing his own children. The⁣ prosecution indicted him at the Ansan branch of the Suwon District Court on the 15th ‍of last month.

The prosecution ‍plans to review whether to ‌additionally prosecute the defendant for violating the Child Welfare ​Act ⁣along with the additional fraud charges.

Lee joined T-ara in 2012‍ but left the‍ group the following year. After that, she married a non-celebrity in 2019 and had⁤ two sons, but in 2023, she announced ​that she was in the process of divorce and revealed that she was dating her new boyfriend.
