Bangkok,
Thai Prime Minister Shretha Thavisin said that former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was sentenced to prison, will be released tomorrow.
Thaksin Shinawatra was the Prime Minister of Thailand from 2001 to 2006. Knowing that he would be sentenced to prison for his malfeasance while in power, he sought refuge abroad.
After 15 years abroad, Thaksin Shinawatra returned to the country last year. Subsequently, in August 2023, he was sentenced to eight years in prison on multiple charges.
However, he was transferred from a Bangkok prison to a hospital due to ill health, and his eight-year prison sentence was reduced to one year by his father-in-law, Maha Vajiralongkorn.
In this situation, 74-year-old Thaksin Shinawatra will be released tomorrow, said Thai Prime Minister Shretha Thavisin.
