Former Union Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal President Sarath Yadav passed away last night. He was 75. His daughter Subashini Yadav announced on Twitter that he passed away at a private hospital in Gurugram.

Sarath Yadav, who had been ailing for a few months, was brought to Portis Memorial Hospital in Gurugram in an unconscious state. The hospital said in its report that there was no pulse in his body when he was admitted and even after treatment like CPR, he could not be saved.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Sarath Yadav on Twitter. In his post, he posted, “Sorrowful death of Sarath Yadav. Served as Member of Parliament and Minister in his long public career. Inspired by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia’s principles. I will always remember the moments I spent with Sarath Yadav. Condolences to family and sympathizers. Om Shanti.” Former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and many leading leaders are condoling the demise of Sharad Pawar.

Sarath Yadav from Bihar came into public life under the influence of the Jayaprakash Narayan movement during the Emergency. He was elected seven times as a member of the Lok Sabha and three times as a member of the states. Sarath Yadav, who was the leading leader of the Janata Dal at that time, became a minister for the first time in 1989.

He later founded the United Janata Dal Party in 2003 along with leaders including George Bernads and Nitish Kumar. He was also the first national president of the party. In 2018, due to differences with Nitish Kumar, he left United Janata Dal and started a separate party. Married to Sarath Yadav in 1989. He has one daughter and one son. Daughter Subashini Rao is in politics.
