Former Warriors Star Andre Iguodala Named Acting Executive Director of National Basketball Players Association

In a surprising move, former Warriors forward Andre Iguodala has been appointed as the National Basketball Players Association’s acting executive director. The announcement was made on Thursday, marking a new chapter in Iguodala’s illustrious career in basketball.

At the age of 39, Iguodala retired in October after a 19-year playing career, during which he spent more than a decade as a member of the union’s executive committee. With this new role, Iguodala aims to use his wealth of experience as a player to strengthen and enhance the union for current and future generations of players.

“I am honored to take on this role and serve the players, who are the heart and soul of the NBA,” Iguodala said. “I’m presented with a unique opportunity to take all that I’ve learned as a player over the course of my 19-year career and apply it to creating an even stronger and more influential union for current and future generations of players.”

During his impressive career, Iguodala spent eight of his final 10 seasons with the Warriors, winning four NBA championships and being named the 2015 Finals MVP. His former teammate, Steph Curry, took to social media to congratulate Iguodala on his new position.

Drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2004, Iguodala spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Sixers before being traded to the Denver Nuggets and eventually joining the Warriors. He also had stints with the Miami Heat before returning to the Warriors for his final two seasons.

In a statement released by the NBPA, CJ McCollum, the current NBPA president, expressed his excitement about having a former player like Iguodala take on the role of executive director, emphasizing the importance of Iguodala’s experience and leadership in the position.

The new role comes after Tamika Tremaglio stepped down as the executive director, having held the position since January 2021. Tremaglio was instrumental in guiding the union through the latest round of collective bargaining earlier this year.

With Iguodala at the helm, the NBA players’ union is poised for a new phase of development and advancement, and there is great anticipation for the impact Iguodala will have in this influential position.
