The driver Fernando Alonso signed a new contract with Aston Martin, according to the Formula One team, in an agreement that links the 42-year-old Spaniard with it for at least the next two seasons.
“There has been a lot said and written about my future in Formula One in recent months, but I am delighted to announce that I am here to stay with Aston Martin Aramco on a multi-year deal,” Alonso said, adding: “I told beginning of the year that I would first decide if I wanted to continue competing and then I would sit down with the team.
“From the moment I joined the team in 2023 I felt very comfortable. In just over 15 months we have already achieved a lot together, with some memorable podiums and battles,” he said.
Alonso, a two-time F1 world champion, moved to Aston Martin for the 2023 season from Alpine and secured six podiums in the first eight races for his new team.
“This multi-year agreement with Fernando takes us to 2026, when we begin our working power unit partnership with Honda,” added team principal Mike Krack in a statement, in which he indicated: “Securing the long-term future of Fernando with Aston Martin Aramco is fantastic news.
Alonso achieved his 100th podium finish by finishing third at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, becoming one of only six F1 drivers to achieve that feat.
