And the 2022 season in Formula 1 is coming to an end, and after the last year was characterized by the control of Red Bull and world champion Max Verstappen, at the Brazilian Grand Prix held this evening (Sunday) in Sao Paulo, it was the manufacturers’ champion for the previous seven years, Mercedes, who recalled oblivion with its most successful race of the season.

Lewis Hamilton who experienced a difficult season came second, but the one who stole the show was his teammate, George Russell. The Briton, in his first season with the team, celebrated his first career Grand Prix win, becoming the first Briton other than Hamilton to win a Grand Prix since Jenson Button in 2012.

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz completed the podium, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc came in fourth and champion Verstappen settled for sixth. Mercedes also managed to reduce the gap from Ferrari in the battle for runners-up in the manufacturers’ championship to 19 points, with only the season-ending race in Abu Dhabi remaining.

4. George Russell (Mercedes) – 265
5. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) – 240
6. Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) – 234
