According to several specialized media, the leaders of Formula 1 are preparing to tighten their security protocol around the Grands Prix after an incident involving guests including Neymar, star of PSG, during the last Spanish Grand Prix, in Barcelona on 4 June.
According Autosportthe Brazilian PSG player and a few other guests were still present on the side of the main straight line of the Barcelona circuit during the single-seater formation lap.
According to the regulations in force, VIPs and members of the international media are only allowed to stand on the grid before the start of the races, in limited numbers, alongside officials and team staff.
“He (Neymar) should not have been on the track during the presentation round, testifies a specialized Brazilian journalist. Guests must leave 10 minutes before the presentation round. We, the televisions, have to go out 5 minutes early.”
Access restrictions to the track and paddocks should be put in place soon.
Already present at the Monaco Grand Prix on May 28, Neymar then honored the invitation for the Barcelona Grand Prix, during which he notably posed with Lewis Hamilton, the British seven-time world champion.
The ‘Neymargate’ comes as the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council awaits the conclusions of the report into the invasion of the track at the end of the Australian GP in April.
“We have to learn from the incident at the Spanish Grand Prix,” FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said recently. The FIA has been assured by Stefano Domenicali (F1 boss) that steps are being taken to ensure there is no repeat of the incident. This is a problem not only in Formula 1 but also in other categories, based on my recent experiences with too many people on the grid at certain events. »
