Fort Worth: A Fort Worth teenager who pleaded guilty to killing a newborn was sentenced to 15 years in prison, the district attorney’s office said in a statement Friday. The 17-year-old had confessed to killing her newborn baby two years ago

According to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, the teenager gave birth to her daughter Dayana on September 9, 2021, in the bathroom of her family’s Fort Worth home.

Shortly after the baby was born, paramedics were called and Dayana was taken to the hospital. Investigators said the boy had a fractured skull and was bleeding. She died six hours later.

“A review of the girl’s cell phone found chat messages between her and the baby’s father stating she didn’t want the baby. They discussed how to get rid of the baby, such as taking abortion pills. Or stabbing the teenage mother in the stomach, the girl said, could ‘wrap the baby in a towel and beat it.’

The DA’s office said the teenager admitted to killing her baby and asked the jury to decide the sentence. A minor was sentenced to 15 years in prison for murder.

The teenager will spend the next two years in the Texas Department of Juvenile Justice and a judge will decide shortly before her 19th birthday whether to transfer her to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the district attorney’s office said. .

The minor also had another baby, which Child Protective Services took from her, the DA said.
