The Legislative Assembly approved with 60 votes the exemption of the Solidarity Fund for Health (FOSALUD) from paying taxes associated with the import and acquisition of an aircraft intended for the transfer of patients in critical conditions. This measure includes the exemption from the Tax on the Transfer of Movable Property and the Provision of Services (VAT) and from the payment of the first registration of the helicopter.

The Directorate of the Medical Emergency System stressed that current barriers, such as geographical conditions, poor road infrastructure and traffic congestion, can critically affect the effectiveness of emergency medical interventions. In highly urgent situations, these factors can be the determining factor between life and death for patients.

Health Minister Francisco Alabi stressed the importance of having a helicopter to transport patients in critical condition to specialized hospitals. “Having a helicopter to transport patients in critical condition, who require a specialized level of care, will make it possible to receive them in hospitals quickly and in a timely manner,” said Alabi, who presented the request to the parliamentarians.

This measure seeks to speed up emergency care and overcome current limitations on mobility, offering an effective solution to improve response times in medical emergency situations.
