Chennai Mourns the Loss of Spiritual Leader Bangaru Adikalar
Chennai is in a state of mourning as the news of the passing of Bangaru Adikalar, the founder of Melmaruvathur Adiparasakthi Siddhar Peetha, spreads across the city. The 82-year-old spiritual leader, who was lovingly referred to as Amma by his devoted followers, passed away yesterday evening without receiving treatment.
Born on March 3, 1941, Bangaru Adikalar brought about significant reforms in temple practices and spirituality. One of his notable achievements was introducing the practice of allowing women to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the Adiparashakti temple and perform rituals. Moreover, he served as the Chairman of the Adiparashakti Charitable Medical Education and Cultural Trust.
Recognizing his immense contributions, the central government bestowed upon Bangaru Adikalar the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2019. However, despite his recent ill health, he succumbed to a chest cold without receiving medical treatment, leaving his disciples devastated.
Leaders from various political parties have expressed their condolences on this great loss. Vanathi Srinivasan expressed her sadness upon hearing the news, while Tamil Nadu Life Rights Party leader Velmurugan stated that the spiritual leader’s death has left lakhs of people in sorrow.
