Kazakhstan, Iran, Turkmenistan and Russia signed a roadmap for the synchronous development of the potential of the eastern route of the international transport corridor “North-South” for 2024-2025.

As reported by Day.Az on Friday, the corresponding document was signed on the sidelines of the first transport trade and export forum “North-South”, which is taking place in Aktau.

The implementation of this document by 2027 will increase the corridor’s throughput capacity to 15 million tons per year, and by 2030 – to 20 million tons.

“Kazakhstan intends to continue its active participation in the development of the eastern branch of the ITC “North-South”, which has the highest potential for growth in freight traffic until 2030 and appears to be the safest for the shortest transit to the Indian Ocean. Therefore, it is necessary to begin the practical implementation of the roadmap signed today for the synchronous development of the potential of the eastern route of the ITC “North-South”, passing through the territories of Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan and Iran,” said the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan during his speech at the event.

It should be noted that over 440 participants from 12 countries, representatives of the Economic Cooperation Organization and the Eurasian Economic Commission are taking part in the forum.

The forum serves as a platform for discussing current issues of development of railways and roads, as well as ports, with the participation of the main players of the North-South transport corridor.
