The Attorney General of the State of Oaxaca (FGEO) confirmed that during the overturning of a bus on the highway Oaxaca-Cuacnopalan, The death toll was four and 20 more injured, although at the time of going to press the figure was still preliminary.
In a statement, the agency reported that it began expert work to determine the causes of the accident that occurred early Thursday morning at kilometer 92+600 of the highway Oaxaca–Cuacnopalan.
The Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that two of the deceased were men and two were women, one of them a minor.
Medical service units of Capufe, Miahuatlan, Tehuacan, Hope, Coixtlahuaca, Acatzingoas well as Red Cross ambulances, went to the scene of the accident to provide care to the injured and transfer them to the corresponding hospitals.
The injured were transferred to the General Hospital of Tehuacan, Pueblaamong them, two girls aged 12 and 14, along with their mothers, all originally from Santa Maria Mixtequilla, Oaxaca, to receive medical attention and where they are reported as stable; the passengers who died were transferred to the municipal rest stop in Asunción Nochixtlán for the performance of the legal autopsy.
The fatal victims are Domingo OA, 51 years old; Cristian AGS, 40 years old; Marylín GJ, 19 years old, and María GDS, 13 years old.
From the initial work carried out at the scene, the FGEO established that the vehicle was transporting students from the Hogar Villa de los Niños Hermanos de María school, a school located in Chalco de Díaz Covarrubias, in the State of Mexico.
Upon learning of the facts, the Prosecutor’s Office deployed a multidisciplinary team to initiate the corresponding investigations and gather evidence that will allow the causes of the accident to be determined.
The Oaxacan agency is closely following up on this case to obtain the results of the expert studies surrounding the accident and to have scientific certainty to establish how the events occurred, with the aim of establishing responsibility for the accident. /ADN
