The human toll of an accident on Sunday in Catalonia is very heavy. Four people died and three were injured on Sunday after being hit by a commuter train while crossing a railway line in northeastern Spain.

The emergency services sent nine ambulances and a helicopter to the scene. “We looked for other possible victims near the train. We did not find any others and transported the injured to the ambulance,” the regional firefighters said on X.
Transport Minister Raquel Sanchez offered her condolences to the families of the victims. Pere Aragones, head of the regional government of Catalonia, said he was “completely devastated” by the tragedy. Police are investigating the causes of the accident, he added. About 170 passengers were on board the commuter train and did not need treatment. However, the line was suspended after this fatal accident.
