Four Serie A clubs, Hellas Verona, Salernitana, Empoli and Lecce, have already been eliminated from the Italian Cup, beaten this weekend by second division teams in the round of 16 from which the leaders of the elite.
One week before the resumption of Serie A, on August 13, 14 and 15, twelve 1st division clubs are concerned by this round of the Cup, unlike the first eight of the last championship (AC Milan, Inter Milan, Naples , Juventus Turin, Lazio, Roma, Fiorentina and Atalanta Bergamo).
On Sunday, two representatives of the elite fell at home: Hellas Verona, beaten (1-4) by Bari, promoted from Serie B, and Franck Ribéry’s Salernitana, surprised by Parma (0-2).
Lecce, promoted to the 1st division, bit the dust on Friday at home against Cittadella (2-3 after extra time) and Empoli were surprised on Saturday at home by Spal (1-2 ap).
The last four 32nd finals take place on Monday, with three elite teams still on the track.
The 16th finals are scheduled for October 19, still in the absence of the eight best in Serie A, who will only compete for the 8th in January.
