Cliffs at Sandsend

WHITBY, England – A woman’s body was discovered this afternoon on a beach below the cliffs near Whitby, marking the fourth such tragic incident in the area in three days.

The North Yorkshire Police coastal team confirmed the discovery at Sandsend, located below the cliffs behind the main car park. The woman, identified as a local resident in her 50s, was found at 11:01 a.m. by a member of the public who immediately contacted emergency services.

Grim Discovery

This latest finding follows a series of previous tragedies. On July 30, a man and a woman, both believed to be in their 40s, died after falling from the cliffs at Whitby. The following day, July 31, another woman, in her 60s, was found deceased near the pavilion cliffs.

Police have stated that the three separate incidents are not connected and the most recent death is not being treated as suspicious.

Responding to the scene were teams from the police, ambulance, coastguard, lifeboat, and fire service. The woman’s body was recovered at 12:55 p.m. The area was reopened at 2:15 p.m. after extensive inquiries were conducted.

Officers are providing support to the woman’s family during this difficult time. A report is currently being prepared for the coroner.
