Last week, the coach of the Guinean national team, Kaba Diawara ended his collaboration with Charly Paquille, who until then served as his assistant. He wasted no time replacing it. Almost a month before the African Cup of Nations, Kaba Diawara has placed his trust in the Malian, Fousseni Diawara, who now serves as assistant coach of the national Syli.
The 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations will be played from January 13 to February 11, 2024, in Ivory Coast. Until now a consultant at the Canal+ group, the former defender of AS Saint-Étienne, Fousseni Diawara, has settled down within the technical staff of Syli. He replaces Frenchman Charles Paquille as assistant coach of Guinea. His mission will be to strengthen the coach’s vision within the locker room and to put his experience of major meetings at the service of the team.
According to information from the sports press, Paquille, in office since April 2022, was no longer unanimous in the locker room. His working methods would be controversial. Foot224 reveals that some players would have complained about the Frenchman’s way of doing things to Kaba Diawara. This would have motivated the latter to notify the Guinean Football Federation of his wish to stop his collaboration with Charly Paquille. In turn, Féguifoot contacted the Ministry of Youth and Sports to grant Kaba Diawara’s wish.
At the end of his career as a professional footballer, Fousseni Diawara embarked on a coaching career with the U-23 selection of Mali, with whom he participated in the Toulon tournament in 2016. Subsequently, he played in different roles within the Malian national team led by Mohamed Magassouba, moving successively from team manager to coordinator, then to assistant coach. His collaboration with the Mali Football Federation ended in 2022. He is now serving Guinea.
In Group C of the CAN draw, in the group stage, Guinea will face Cameroon, Gambia and the reigning champion, Senegal, to advance to the first round of the competition.
