Taipei Foxconn founder Terry Gou resigned from his position on the board of the Apple supplier after running for Taiwan’s presidential post. The company said in a brief statement on Saturday that Gou had resigned “due to personal reasons.”

His campaign team declined to comment. The billionaire announced his candidacy for the January election on Monday.

According to polls, he is well behind incumbent Vice President William Lai of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). Gou resigned as Foxconn chairman in 2019.
