The Taiwanese company Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn) plans to build a factory in Mexico for the production of GB200 “superchips” on order from the American company Nvidia. About this reported Foxconn CEO Yang Liu at the company’s annual technology conference.

According to the top manager, the Guadalajara plant will become the largest assembly site for such chips. The GB200 is needed for the next generation of Blackwell GPUs from Nvidia – these powerful processors will be used primarily for artificial intelligence systems.

Foxconn already has a chip manufacturing plant in Mexico; the company previously invested $500 million in local manufacturing. Liu did not say how much he plans to invest in building the new plant.

Foxconn’s decision to build a factory in Mexico is another sign of many tech companies’ desire to reduce their dependence on supplies from China. Due to tensions between the United States and China, as well as rising labor costs in China and tightening local regulations, many Western companies are looking to move production to other countries. Most often, funds are invested in the construction of factories and data centers in Southeast Asia, but there are also other areas, for example, Mexico.

Last week, Foxconn reported record quarterly revenue of $57 billion. The company’s recent good results are mainly due to high demand for chips, server equipment, etc.
