In the message of the British government, it is noted that the statistics did not include new cases of infection in Scotland and Northern Ireland. They have abandoned the counting of cases of infection during the Christmas holidays. At the same time, the statistics included the dynamics of morbidity in Wales over several days.

A record increase in coronavirus infection rates is being observed against the background of the spread of a new omicron strain. More than 177,200 cases of omicron coronavirus infection have been identified in the UK to date. The number of reported deaths from the new strain in the United Kingdom has reached 49.

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the world on December 28 exceeded 280 million, the number of deaths during the entire pandemic is more than 5.4 million people, according to updated data from the World Health Organization (WHO). Most of the confirmed cases of infection, data on which came to WHO, were registered in the United States – 51.8 million people. This is followed by India (34.8 million), Brazil (22.2 million), Great Britain (12.2 million) and Russia (10.4 million).

According to the headquarters on December 28, 21,922 cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Russia over the last 24 hours – this is the minimum value since September 24. Also, 935 deaths from COVID-19 were registered per day. Over the entire period, 10 437 152 cases of the disease were detected in Russia. 9,337,447 patients recovered from COVID-19, and 306,090 died.
