France has no right to post pictures of children online

French lawmakers push law to protect children’s privacy online According to this, parents cannot post pictures of their children online, including on social media, without their permission.

The proposal was introduced by MP Bruno Struder. It said it aims to empower parents and teach children that parents do not have absolute rights over their images. The law was approved unanimously by the French National Assembly. Struder noted that the average 1,300 images of a 13-year-old child are circulating on the Internet. It is also said that these images can be used for child pornography or used to bully them at school.

According to Struder, 50 percent of images used in child pornography are images shared by parents on social media. The first two articles of the Bill deal with the protection of privacy. Struder is a member of the Delegation for the Rights of the Child, which was established in September 2022.

However, after the law came into force, many people came forward for and against it. Most people feel that this will not do anything to protect the privacy of children and will not produce the expected results. Others asked if it was enough to protect children’s privacy and why no one said anything about their dignity.

In any case, the new law has given rise to a great deal of debate.
