After speaking about what he described as the “catastrophic results” of the French legislative elections, the leader of the far-right National Rally party, Marine Le Pen, attacked football star, Kylian Mbappe.

During an interview with CNN, Le Pen rejected Mbappe’s statements, saying that he “is not a representative of immigrants.”

“The French are tired of being lectured and advised on how to vote,” Le Pen said, adding: “Mbappé does not represent French people of immigrant background, because there are a large number of them who live on the minimum wage, who cannot afford housing or heating, compared to people like Mr Mbappé.”

The captain of the French national football team, Kylian Mbappe, said: “It is very urgent” to vote in the second round after the “catastrophic” results of the first round!

“I think more than ever we need to go out and vote, we cannot leave our country in the hands of these people,” he said in Hamburg on the eve of France’s Euro 2020 quarter-final against Portugal. “There is an emergency, we cannot leave our country in their hands, it is really urgent, we have seen the results, it is catastrophic.”

The first round of parliamentary elections in France took place on June 30, with the National Rally party and its allies from the Republican Party coming in first with 33.15% of the vote, while the leftist New Popular Front coalition took 27.99%, while President Emmanuel Macron’s coalition came in third with 20.04%. The second round of French parliamentary elections is scheduled to take place next Sunday.

French people in overseas territories are voting today, Saturday, in the second and final round of legislative elections monitored by Western capitals, with the French right rising.
