L’France team faces Morocco in the semi-finals of the World Cup this Wednesday evening. A match of the utmost importance for the two selections, but also for the supporters of the two camps. In Île-de-France, more particularly in Paris and on the Champs-Élysées, we fear overflows. After the quarter-finals on Saturday, thousands of people gathered on the Parisian avenue and there were many incidents. According to RTL, the Central Territorial Intelligence Service (SCRT) issued an alert for France-Morocco this Wednesday, December 14 and predicts that the fervor will cause “invasions of public roads (which) will be followed by overflows”.

“Clashes with the security forces are likely, including the throwing of projectiles and mortar fire,” also warned the SCRT.

But many incidents have been noted, often after scuffles provoked by violent groups, who came to join the popular jubilation only with the aim of causing mayhem.

Calls for confrontation with the police

According to the police headquarters, on Saturday there were nearly 20,000 people on the Champs-Élysées. Damage to street furniture took place, a barricade was erected and projectiles were thrown at the police. Nineteen police officers were slightly injured. A total of 80 people, including 62 adults, were taken into custody. Three people were presented to justice for a trial in immediate appearance in Paris.

Intelligence fears that the situation will escalate for the same reasons after the semi-final. Moreover, calls for confrontation with the police have been noted on social networks.

In Paris, an important security device has been put in place: the Ministry of the Interior has decided to mobilize 10,000 agents – police and gendarmes – to ensure the maintenance of order.

For the time being, a closure of the Champs-Élysées has not been decided, but it does not seem excluded. The mayor of 8e arrondissement of Paris is campaigning for car traffic to be interrupted from 8 p.m. and for people wishing to walk on the avenue to be filtered.
