France: Pécresse first woman Republican candidate in presidential election – France

Paris – Former minister Valérie Pécresse becomes the first woman presidential candidate for the French Republicans. She prevailed in the internal primary of the Conservative Party on Saturday against the MP Éric Ciotti. The liberal politician received around 61 percent of the vote in the runoff election, as party leader Christian Jacob announced. The strongly right-wing Ciotti only got 39 percent.
