The Women’s Euro continues to provide us with dramatic games and tonight (Saturday) it was France who starred and beat the Netherlands 0:1 thanks to a goal in the 102nd minute of overtime in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The tricolor qualified for the semi-finals, where they will meet the German team.
France were much better in the first half and came close several times to take the lead, the most notable of which was in the 36th minute, when Melvin Mallard’s shot was blocked by Stephanie van der Grunt on the goal line. How much better were the women in blue at halftime? They kicked the goal 12 times compared to only once by the Dutch, which was still not enough to score the first goal.
Although France still dominated the match in the second half and was again close to scoring, neither team was able to find the back of the net and the game was dragged into overtime after 0:0 in 90 minutes. In the 102nd minute, the control on the grass was finally reflected on the scoreboard as well, when France won a penalty, which Yves Parisa translated into the justified 0:1 of the team in blue, a result that was maintained until the end of the 120 minutes. The Netherlands, the last champion, failed to retain the title and will return home empty handed.
