The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Paris said Durov faces up to 10 years in prison on charges of running an online platform to carry out illegal transactions.
The Prosecutor’s Office claimed that Durov has been charged in France with various charges including “providing encryption services intended to provide secret functions without corresponding advertising, and complicity in the transfer and supply of equipment, tools, software or data without any legal basis.”
A statement from the Public Prosecutor’s Office said that the founder of the “Telegram” application, Pavel Durov, is prohibited from leaving France and must pay a bail of 5 million euros, although he was not placed in pre-trial detention.
Durov spent several hours in court, after which the prosecutor’s office in Paris announced that he could be released on bail.
