For five years now, Emmanuel Macron has made tax cuts one of the political totems of his action, arguing that this would bring us closer to what is being done elsewhere in Europe. But did he achieve his goals?

In fact, while France remains the first country in the euro zone in terms of fiscal pressure – the second in Europe behind Denmark – the gap with the euro zone and Germany has narrowed further in 2021, thanks in particular to lower production taxes.
