UEFA announced this Tuesday: there will be “a moment of silence” before all the matches of the day counting for the Euro 2024 qualifiers. The European body was keen to observe a period of reflection after the attack which took the lives of two supporters who came to attend the match between Belgium and Sweden this Monday in Brussels.
In its press release, UEFA explained that it wanted to “salute the memory of the victims”. Officially, the decision does not concern the French team’s match this Tuesday against Scotland, since it is a friendly match. In addition to the two deaths in Brussels, a third Swedish fan was seriously injured on his way to the playoff match. The alleged perpetrator of the attack, a 45-year-old radicalized Tunisian, was fatally injured during a Belgian police operation during the morning.
