France team: around 500,000 euros in bonuses for the World Cup finalists

by time news

About 500,000 euros in bonuses for the finalists of the last World Cup. As indicated by L’Équipe on Wednesday, this is the sum that the players of the France team will receive, beaten by Argentina at the end of a crazy final (3-3 after, 4-2 on pens), as well as the members of the technical staff such as coach Didier Deschamps, his assistant Guy Stéphan or goalkeeper coach Franck Raviot.

An amount higher than expected because a revaluation of bonuses related to image rights was negotiated between the French Football Federation and the players. During the meetings preceding the World Cup in Qatar, Les Bleues received 21,200 euros per match in compensation for advertising campaigns. A sum revalued around 30,000 euros for this World Cup. All multiplied by the seven games played until the final: the Habs and part of the staff will therefore receive around 210,000 euros for image rights.

In addition to these bonuses, the finalists and the staff share, as was the case in 2018, 30% of the allocation granted by Fifa to the participating teams. The scale provided by the world body grants approximately 29 million euros to the finalist nation. Which represents, in the end, 8.7 million euros to be divided into 30 units (26 players and 4 staff members), or around 290,000 euros per head.

More than in Russia, in 2018

In total, Kylian Mbappé, his teammates or coach Didier Deschamps will therefore cash a check for around 500,000 euros in the coming weeks. The bonuses have not yet been paid since the FIFA prizes have only been distributed recently. By way of comparison, the Blues had received just over 400,000 euros per head for success at the 2018 World Cup. A lower sum in absolute value but not in proportion. The advertising campaigns that brought in more for the FFF in 2022 than in 2018.

In addition, the rest of the staff of the France team, made up of physiotherapists, the doctor or the stewards do not benefit from these bonuses. But players donate part of their bonuses to them. Just as these players can also pay these bonuses to associations, as was the case in 2018.

This Thursday, Didier Deschamps will communicate the first post-World Cup list for the qualifying matches for Euro 2024 against the Netherlands on March 24 at the Stade de France and in Ireland on March 27 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
