At the Place de la République in Paris, several left-wing supporters gathered to express their satisfaction at having blocked the far right, which had won the first round on June 30 but which was relegated to third place in this election, behind the presidential coalition (Ensemble) ranked 2nd (164 to 174 estimated seats).

Long considered the favourite in the election, the far-right party chaired by Jordan Bardella did not succeed in its bet and would be credited with 120 to 150 seats in the lower house. Reacting to these results, Mr Bardella stressed to his activists that his party will continue to play its role within the elected bodies in the country and will constitute a political force carrying all its weight at the level of the European Parliament.
The presidential camp, for its part, which could, according to provisional projections, retain between 150 and 180 elected representatives in the National Assembly, achieved a notable performance for the central bloc.
Speaking, Gabriel Attal affirmed that the country is at a historic moment, calling on political forces to assume their responsibilities and imagine a new model of governance in the interest of France, because none of the political blocs formed have obtained the majority.
In a solemn tone, he indicated that he assumed his responsibility and respected the republican tradition, announcing that he would present his resignation as Prime Minister tomorrow, Monday.
According to observers, the President of the Republic could choose to appoint a technical government led by a consensus figure, which would limit a blockage in the country, which will host the Olympic Games in a few days. But the Elysée Palace has opted for moderation, with Emmanuel Macron’s entourage, quoted by the media, ruling out any decision on this subject for the time being before seeing the final configuration of the National Assembly.
