France announced the withdrawal of cans of the Coca-Cola Cherry drink, with cherry flavour, due to health risks, which it said could cause serious diseases.
The government website, “Rapel Conso,” indicated that “Coca-Cola cherry-flavored cans are subject to precautionary measures due to the presence of a dangerous chemical substance, “bisphenol A,” which is used in the production of the inner coating of cans made of phenoxy resin.”
The American company “Coca-Cola” confirmed in a statement that “Coca-Cola – France would like to clarify that this withdrawal does not relate to other “Coca-Cola Cherry” products sold at other points of sale in France, with the exception of stores affiliated with the B&M chain.”
She added that “the recalls include packages produced “outside France”, while products manufactured and distributed throughout France by the local bottling company (Coca-Cola Europacific Partners France) are not affected by this recall.”
According to the French Food Safety Agency (ANSES), bisphenol A, which has been banned in France since 2015 despite its previous use in canning, is an endocrine disruptor and is suspected of being linked to a range of disorders and diseases, including breast cancer and infertility.
