Paris: France’s teenage star has made history in T20 cricket. France’s Gustave McKeon became the youngest player to score a century in T20 cricket after scoring a century against Switzerland in the regional qualifiers for the 2024 T20 World Cup in Europe.

18-year-old McKeon changed history by scoring 109 runs off 61 balls against Switzerland. McKeon broke the century record of Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Sazai in 2019 at the age of 20 years and 337 days. Sasai scored 162 off 62 balls against Ireland.

McKeon, who has been in top form in the tournament, scored a 54-ball 76 against the Czech Republic on Sunday. McKeon won the historic victory but France lost in a thrilling match till the last ball. Batting first, France McKeon scored 157 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.

Chasing a target of 158 runs, the Swiss team reached the target in the last ball. Swiss captain Faheer Nasir (67 off 46 balls) including 12 runs off the last three balls and Ali Nayyar, who remained unbeaten with 48 runs off 16 balls, prepared a thrilling victory for the Swiss. Nayyar, who also excelled in bowling, conceded 26 runs and took two wickets.

In Group B, the teams of Norway, Czech Republic and Estonia, apart from France and Switzerland, are competing in the World Cup qualifying tournament. Norway is the first in the group. France is second.
