Francisca Crovetto Wins Gold, Pays Tribute to Nicolás Massú
Francisca Crovetto Chadid made history at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, claiming gold in the women’s skeet shooting final. This remarkable achievement not only stands as Chile‘s first gold medal in the competition but also marks the first time a Chilean athlete has ever won gold in any sport.
The 34-year-old Crovetto expressed her heartfelt gratitude to legendary tennis player Nicolás Massú, who won gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics. In a touching tribute, Crovetto referenced Massú’s famous quote, encouraging viewers to “dream big, work hard, overcome challenges, and believe in the impossible.”
Her victory resonated deeply with the Chilean people. The nation had waited 20 years for an Olympic gold, and Crovetto’s triumph was celebrated as a historic moment.
This remarkable achievement also solidified Crovetto’s place in Chilean sporting history. She became the second woman from Chile to stand on an Olympic podium, following Marlene Ahrens’ silver medal in 1956.
