Francisco Cabezas (Barcelona, 1978) is the new head of the Sports section of EL PERIÓDICO. Graduated in Journalism from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, he began his career in the historic magazine ‘Don Balón’ and since 2001 he worked in the Catalan delegation of ‘El Mundo’ (2001), where he was head of Sports. Chronicler of the FC Barcelona matches for the past 20 years has been special envoy in two World Cups, three Euro Cups and five Champions League finals, among other sporting events. Professor in the Master of Sports Journalism from Pompeu Fabra University, collaborates with radio stations RAC1 and Onda Cero.
In 2017 he was awarded the prize for best journalistic work of the year by the magazine ‘Panenka’, an editorial with which in June 2022 he published his first novel, ‘Perder’. In the Sports section, it has also been incorporated Laia Bonals, women’s soccer specialist.
EL PERIÓDICO also reinforces the Image area (which includes photography, graphic editing and video equipment), with the incorporation of Barbara Favant as boss. She has a degree in Social Communication with a mention in Journalism from the National University of Entre Ríos and is currently doing a Postgraduate Degree in Literary Journalism at the UAB. She was a director and producer on various television channels and radio stations in Santa Fe from 2009 to 2023. During that period she did photojournalism for different media and developed the Audiovisual Area at ‘Diario UNO’. She founded the transfeminist cooperative media ‘Periódicas’ in 2018.

45th anniversary of the newspaper
EL PERIÓDICO is commemorating its 45th anniversary this year (the first issue of the paper edition came out on October 26, 1978) and will celebrate it on all its channels looking to the future. A new section on the web will review the evolution of the major issues of the newspaper’s editorial commitment in these 45 years, and will advance what can be expected to happen in the next 45 years, with the collaboration of specialists in these matters. There will also be an exhibition for the fall with 45 of the covers that we would like to be able to publish in the coming decades and a commemorative edition on paper.
