Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca was left without a candidacy; Marko Cortés and the PAN decided to erase their aspiration

Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, who was seeking the candidacy for federal deputy, was officially downloaded of the electoral contest, as announced Marko Cortes, national leader of the National Action Party (PAN).

In his place, the former candidate for governor in Tamaulipas was designated as a candidate for federal representative, César Verástegui “The Trick”, 57 years old.

This decision comes a couple of days after the General Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) proposed denying the candidacy of Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, as a result of two arrest warrants against him.

Through a statement, in “compliance with the resolutions of the electoral authorities,” the PAN leader Marko Cortés designated as a candidate for federal deputy César Verástegui “The Trick”, in the place of Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca.

The statement states that “El Truco” came first on the list of councils due to the principle of proportional representation of the second multi-member constituency.

“We deeply regret the decision of the INE to deny the candidacy of former governor Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca, since he is in full exercise of his rights,” reads the PAN statement.

Prior to “El Truco”, the PAN had already resolved that Homero Alonso Flores was its candidate in the absence of Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, but he ended up presenting his resignation as a candidate for federal deputy.

Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca was denied the candidacy by the Electoral Court

He Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation indicated that Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca did not have the candidacy requirements because he was associated with crimes in organized crime.

However, on April 19, he was granted a definitive suspension by the Seventh District Judge in the State of Tamaulipas, arguing that in this way he could make use of his electoral rights.

In their appeal, they said that Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca cannot be considered as fugitive from justicesince it is evident that since the effects of said order are not in force, the consequences that derive directly and indirectly from it cannot take effect either.

However, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca was denied the candidacy on previous occasions, despite the two definitive suspensions granted by a judge.
