Franciscus Foundation Donates €30,000 to BREHAB Study on Lifestyle Guidance for Breast Cancer Patients

The Franciscus Foundation, in collaboration with the National Fund Against Cancer, has generously donated a contribution of €30,000 to support the BREHAB study. This study, conducted in Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland, aims to examine the effect of individual lifestyle guidance in women with breast cancer.

The donation check was presented to physician-researcher Sophie Wooldrik and surgeon Taco Klem, both of whom are actively involved in the Franciscus medical center.

As part of the BREHAB study, every patient participating will receive a tailor-made lifestyle program guided by an experienced lifestyle coach. This program is designed to address the specific needs of each patient, from the initial diagnosis until 6 months after the operation.

Sophie Wooldrik, who is leading the study, emphasized the importance of developing effective lifestyle interventions to enhance the quality of life and prognosis for breast cancer patients. She expressed her gratitude for the generous contribution and highlighted the significance of providing patients with a lifestyle program that aligns with their own goals and desires.

To create a more positive association and environment for breast cancer patients, the entire lifestyle process takes place outside the hospital. This approach aims to alleviate any negative feelings associated with hospitalization and foster a supportive and empowering setting for patients.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, but advancements in early detection and treatment have led to reduced mortality rates. However, many patients still experience long-term consequences such as weight gain, stress, anxiety, changes in self-image, and intimacy issues.

These post-treatment complications significantly impact both the quality of life for breast cancer patients and the prognosis of the disease, including the risk of recurrence and overall survival. The Franciscus medical center is dedicated to investigating whether lifestyle guidance can positively influence these outcomes.

The Franciscus Foundation, the charity arm of Franciscus Gasthuis & Vlietland, plays a crucial role in supporting such research and initiatives. To learn more about the Franciscus Foundation and their work, please visit www.franciscus.nl/vrienden.

The donation from the Franciscus Foundation and the National Fund Against Cancer will further the efforts of the BREHAB study and provide valuable insights into the impact of lifestyle guidance on breast cancer patients. This contribution reflects the shared commitment to improving the lives of those affected by breast cancer and advancing medical knowledge in this field.]
