Two weeks after being announced as the new coach of Uruguay, Marcelo Bielsa launched the first call-up and did not skimp on surprises. Sporting player Franco Israel is one of the newcomers and could even make his debut for Uruguay’s main team.
In a list without several usual names, which explains the absence of Coates and Ugarte, also from Sporting, the new Uruguayan coach decided to see in action several young people who can be part of the new generation in the country.
Franco Israel, aged 23, was called up to represent the senior team for the first time after earning 14 caps for Uruguay’s under-20 team.
The Albiceleste team will play two friendlies in June, against Nicaragua (June 14) and Cuba (June 20), both at the Centenario stadium, in Montevideo.
