In order to avoid possible fraud, the Ministry of Mobility of Mexico City (SEMOVI) warned the residents of the capital about the ‘gift’ cards that are offered on social networks.

SEMOVI pointed out that ‘gift’ Integrated Mobility cards do not exist’, after several publications became popular stating that they could obtain one of these cards, which are the key to access the Metro, Metrobús, Light Rail and more.

It is gift cards are a bait for fraud and extortionindicated SEMOVI, emphasizing that the only legitimate cards are those purchased at subway ticket offices or recharge machines.

How to avoid being scammed with fake transportation cards

It is crucial to be alert and not fall into the trap of fake offers. The SEMOVI insists on purchasing cards only in authorized placessuch as Metro ticket offices or Metrobús vending machines.

The government agency also stressed that the danger goes beyond losing money, because by falling for these scams, one can be exposed to extortion or even put their personal safety at risk.

To avoid falling into scams, it is essential to know the real prices of public transport. On the Metrobús, the cost is 6 pesos, while traveling from San Lázaro to terminal 1 or 2 of the AICM on line 4 has a price of $30.00 pesos. For its part, the Metro has a cost of 5 pesos.
