The case of the remanded mayor of Heimarra is definitively referred to a regular hearing, Freddy Bellerisin Albania.
In particular, the relevant decision was taken on Thursday by the Special Court against Corruption in Tirana, where the Beleris side had appealed with a request to lift his pre-trial detention.
A trial date has not been set and until then the elected mayor of Heimarras will remain a prisoner in the prisons of Durres.
It is recalled that Freddy Beleris will be visited on Friday in the prison where he is held by the Minister of Citizen Protection, Yiannis Oikonomou, who is in the neighboring country to participate in the conference of “Berlin Process”.
On Thursday, Mr. Economou had a bilateral meeting with his Albanian counterpart, to whom he raised the issue of Freddy Beleri’s prolonged detention and “mainly the deprivation of his right to take the oath and exercise his duties as a democratically elected mayor, which , apart from the rest, it also violates the presumption of innocence and is against the European acquis”.
