Frédéric Sève, number three of the CFDT, is dead

The secretary general of the French Democratic Confederation of Labor (CFDT), Laurent Berger, announced on Tuesday July 26 the death of Frédéric Sève, treasurer of the organization, in charge of the pension file and number three of the first trade union confederation of employees in matter of electoral representativeness.

“With infinite sadness, we announce the sudden death of Frédéric Sève, national secretary and treasurer of the CFDT. A committed activist, immensely responsible who knew how to combine reflection, ambition and action, Frédéric was a wonderful man and a friend. The CFDT is in mourning, tweeted Mr. Shepherd. Mr. Sève died at the age of 55 of a heart attack, we know at the plant.

Confederal treasurer of the CFDT, this professor of economics and social sciences had been secretary general of the education union SGEN-CFDT in 2012 before joining the executive committee of the confederation in 2016, relates this union in a press release, evoking a “tremendous sadness”.

“A passionate trade unionist”

“Responsible for the pensions file, he has not ceased in recent years to fight with conviction and perseverance to make the system fairer”continues the press release. “He was also the great craftsman of the alliance of the CFDT with some sixty organizations in the “Pact of the power to live””launched in March 2019 with the ambition of making “converge ecology and social”.

Several union and political leaders paid tribute to him on social networks. “Frédéric Sève was a passionate trade unionist. His talent and ability to negotiate will be missed in social dialogue. He will be missed by all of us”reacted Olivier Dussopt, Minister of Labor.

“The CFDT loses a tireless activist”wrote on Twitter the president of Unédic, Patricia Ferrand, while the boss of Medef, Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, greeted on the same social network and ” a great trade unionist with whom Medef has always had a respectful and attentive dialogue ».
