NHSO Promotes Free Cervical Cancer Screening for Thai Women

In an effort to raise awareness about the importance of cervical cancer screening, the National Health Security Office (NHSO) hotline 1330 has been proactively informing Thai women about their rights to receive free screenings for cervical cancer. Despite the efforts, the number of women seeking screenings after receiving advice calls remains low at only 30 percent.

Dr. Atthaphon Limpanyalert, Deputy Secretary-General of NHSO, emphasized the importance of early detection in increasing the chance of a complete cure and reducing the death rate from cervical cancer. Under the health promotion and disease prevention services in the National Health Security system, also known as the 30 baht gold card, all Thai women have the right to receive cervical cancer screening at no cost.

Cervical cancer is the fifth most common cancer in Thai women, with 5,422 new cases reported annually and claiming the lives of 2,238 individuals each year. Despite the availability of free screening services, many women are not taking advantage of this opportunity.

To encourage more women to seek cervical cancer screenings, NHSO has utilized the NHSO Hotline 1330 to inform and advise the target group of Thai women about the benefits of cervical cancer screening. The hotline has made over 2.36 million calls over the past two years, but the number of women seeking screenings remains low.

NHSO urges all Thai women who have received advice from the hotline to contact the service unit for screening services or utilize the channels prepared by NHSO. Early detection is critical in the fight against cervical cancer, and with the availability of free screenings, all Thai women are encouraged to take advantage of this life-saving opportunity.]
