The 100 public colleges of Essonne will all have distributors of free periodic protection at the start of the 2023 school year. It was a desire of the Departmental Council to fight against menstrual precariousness and break the taboo around this subject. It tested this solution for the first time in March 2022 with a deployment in 15 colleges.
A booklet given to all 4th graders
“The Île-de-France region had set up distributors in high schools and higher education, but I had the impression that my schoolgirls were left out, who are also affected by this subject”, indicated At Parisian Cendrine Chaumont (DVD) Essonne departmental councilor in charge of this project. She hopes to be able to install vending machines in primary schools soon.
If all middle school girls will be able to get tampons and pads for free, all fourth graders will receive the booklet Teen questions so that they are better informed on the subject. Nearly one in two young girls (47%), aged 13 to 25 in France, say that she or someone close to her has already been ashamed of having their period, according to a published study in May 2022.
