Free tests according to Brunner “no longer for everyone at any time”

by time news

If Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP) has his way, the free corona tests should “no longer be available to everyone at any time”. After all, the costs of the tests are “enormous”, also in relation to the procurement of the vaccines. However, according to Brunner, they can be passed on to particularly vulnerable groups or the care sector. Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) had emphasized the day before that he wanted to stick to a reduced range of free corona tests.

A “certain extent”, i.e. a certain number per person after the general phase-out at the end of March, should continue to be free, Rauch noted. The Minister of Health, on the other hand, considers a division into different groups – such as tests only for the health sector – to be “not sensible”.

Corona tests will remain free for the general public until March 31st. For the time after that, the government has announced that it intends to revise the test strategy.
