Chennai: Chennai Municipal Transport Corporation has announced that free travel token for senior citizens will be provided from 21st.

Anbu Abraham, Managing Director of Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation, said that bus travel tokens will be issued to senior citizens for free travel in Chennai Municipal Transport Corporation buses from 21st.

In a statement issued by him in this regard, “Free bus travel tokens have already been issued till December so that the senior citizens of Chennai above 60 years of age can travel free of charge in the Municipal Transport Corporation buses. Currently, the token which can be used till June 2023 will be issued in the next half-year.

10 tokens per month, free bus travel tokens for 6 months, identity card renewal, new user issue at 40 centers from 21st to 31st January from 8 AM to 7.30 PM. Thereafter, from February 1 onwards, it will be issued in the respective workshop office during office hours.

To get new free travel tokens and identity cards one has to submit copy of family card as proof of residence, copy of Aadhaar card or driving license or education certificate or voter ID card as proof of age and 2 color passport size photographs. The originals of the relevant documents should be kept in hand for verification. Also, senior citizens coming for renewal should bring only one current passport size photograph along with their previous free travel ID card,” the statement said.
