The Free Voters in Brandenburg have removed deputy state leader Ilona Nicklisch as a direct candidate in constituency 39 (Senftenberg) and from the state list in fourth place. At a meeting in Bernau, 78 representatives voted in favor, 16 against and 19 abstained.
Most district spokespeople feared that Nicklisch would not be able to run a successful election campaign due to a serious illness and a defeat in the local elections. Her twin sister Christina Nicklisch said it was “shabby” to punish her sister in this way. She assured that Ilona Nicklisch would be released from a health resort next week and would then be fully functional again, reported the “Märkische Oderzeitung” (MOZ).
In addition, several speakers pointed out in their justification that 66-year-old Ilona Nicklisch was too old to be a candidate. However, this was also known when she was nominated last autumn, said her twin sister, according to the “MOZ”.
State parliament member Matthias Stefke told the German Press Agency that the step was not easy. But: “It is necessary for our effectiveness and it is necessary for your protection,” he said.
The Free Voters also threw the direct candidate Andreas Franke off the state list. He had not joined his own faction in the Elbe-Elster district council, but a faction that is close to the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance.
